Reggie Bush Could Owe IRS Nice Chunk of Change

If you are a sports fan, you know the USC just got nailed by the NCAA for wayward conduct by Reggie Bush. Well, the interesting news is the IRS is now interested in Mr. Bush.

The University of Southern California has long been a major power in football. Well, at least until the 1990s when it became a very average team and afterthought when it came to championships. Then Pete Carroll was named coach and started recruiting major talent. Reggie Bush was one such talent out of the San Diego area, a talent that would help lead USC to the top of the college football world.

The NCAA was known to be investigating the USC sports program for the last few years. Nobody was sure how it was going, but a big sign occurred when Pete Carroll suddenly decided to head off to coach the Seattle Seahawks, which are not exactly a big power in the NFL.

It wasn’t long after that before the news came out that the NCAA was hammering USC for violations. There were many violations, but the primary area of concern had to do with a single player – Mr. Reggie Bush. He and his family were alleged to have been given up to $300,000 in gifts during his playing days at the school. This is strictly against the rules and the penalties handed down will probably turn the football program from a championship contender to a middle of the road school.

And what of Mr. Bush? In most of these cases, the athlete walks away with nothing more than a bit of a knock on his reputation. Well, this case may be different. The IRS is apparently looking into the matter and may be interested in obtaining back taxes on that $300,000. Bush could be looking at paying 50 to 60 percent of that amount when penalties and interest are included.

Will it break him? Not a chance. It is chump change to him. He has made millions in the NFL, but at least he won’t get off entirely scott-free.
