Tankless Heater Tax Credit
Going green has never been so financially positive. The tankless heater tax credit is another example of how reducing your carbon footprint and utility bill can really pay. What is a tankless heater? Well, go for a stroll around your house. You’ll eventually find a device that looks like a small, but fat, missile of some sort. It is usually in the garage, but can be in a closet space if your architect was an idiot. Regardless, that is your water heater. It holds a lot of water as you can see. It constantly is popping on and off as it tries to keep that water at a set hot temperature. This is extremely inefficient and runs your utility bill up to say the least.
The tankless heater is pretty much what the name suggests. It is a water heater without a tank. It uses a lot of energy in short bursts to heat water running through pipes when you really need it. This is still a net energy savings, however, as you don’t have the energy waste of a heat continually trying to keep a tank warm. Imagine how cold it gets in your garage and you can get a better idea of how often that heater is coming on.
The new approach makes sense in many ways. Getting people motivated to change to it is a bit more difficult. To give us a prod or two, Congress passed The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This is better known as the Stimulus Bill. This bill terminated the $300 tax credit that had been with us for years. Don’t fret, it replaced it with something better.
The tax credit associated with going tankless is now a moving target dependent on how much you pay for the heater. Instead of $300, you can now claim a tax credit equivalent to 30 percent of the price of device with a cap of $1,500. For example, I could claim a tax credit of $500 if I purchased one of these babies for $1,500. Not bad, eh?
Make no mistake, the tankless heater tax credit is an effort by the government to change the way you live. Energy is going to be a big problem moving forward and this is one way to get us to be more efficient in our daily lives.
