However, they should be unable to give you a plan until they see your financial information. If the tax consultants fail either of these tests, drop them like a rock. You are paying for their expertise and should demand personal attention.
IRS tax consultants come in all forms. The best are CPAs and attorneys. There are also registered agents, but you should probably avoid these individuals. They are merely registered with the IRS and typically don’t have much training on tax issues. If they steer you on the wrong course, you are going to regret it.
CPAs and tax attorneys are your best choice when it comes to IRS tax consultants. Yes, they will cost you some money. A proactive tax consultant, however, should be able to develop a plan for you that will save far more money than you will ever spend on them. If not, move on to a new one.
