Congressional Waste – Laugh At Your Representative

Politicians are elected to represent us, but Congressional waste is so prevalent that you should laugh at your representative the next time they ask for sacrifice on your part. 

After “heated” debate, Republicans and Democrats agreed on an annual budget that really attacks the massive waste we see in government. Yes, this Herculean effort resulted in an annual budget with only a 1.6 trillion dollar deficit! This, of course, just ads on to the roughly $14 trillion dollar deficit we owe overall. It is scary number and your representatives are doing nothing about it. 

Purpose

The point of being an elected representative is just that – to represent us voters. Instead, our government has evolved to the point where it is so corrupt, oh sorry, lobbying oriented that most politicians look at getting elected as the step to the lush life. Instead of making the correct decisions, they make the ones that keep them in D.C. and that is a disaster for us.

What do we hear now from both Republicans and Democrats? We must deal with the deficit, we must cut waste and so on. Well, perhaps we should start with Congress itself. Do you know we pay $440,000 a year to elevator attendants who ask the politicians what floor they are going to and press a button to take them? 

Don’t get me wrong. $440,000 is less than a drop in the bucket when considering our national debt problems, but it paints a perfect picture of what is wrong with government in this country. Instead of government being a place where hard decisions are made, there is a country club atmosphere of entitlement that exists with our representatives, particularly those who have been in office for long periods of time. That is scary. 

The next time your representative talks about how much we all need to sacrifice in light of the budgetary problems this nation faces, just laugh at them. Then tell them we will be willing to sacrifice as soon as they get rid of their elevator attendants.
